Your Space Counselling

Supporting your well-being

Your Space Counselling is dedicated to supporting the well-being of children, young people and adults in Essex and across the UK.

At Your Space Counselling, we believe that well-being is a journey not a destination and I am here to walk that journey with you.
I’m Janet, and as a fully trained counsellor, I aim to offer a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental space for you to reflect on the experiences that have bought you to counselling and the individual way in which these experiences may be affecting your life.

I offer counselling and support to children, young people and adults and am most passionate about supporting those who may have or identify as having a Special Educational Need (SEN) diagnosis, disordered eating, anxiety or are exhibiting self-injurious behaviours.

I work using a variety of mediums, including talking therapy, creative therapy, art therapy and sand tray therapy.

About me

Many things in life can cause us to feel stressed or anxious, including seeing someone we love going through a difficult time.

As a fully qualified and experienced counsellor, I can help you work through life’s more difficult moments and support you in finding your way back to the best version of yourself.

I hold an honours degree in counselling and psychotherapy, a foundation degree in counselling children as well as multiple other trainings including CBT, SFT, eating disorders, autism and ADHD.
I am also a member of the BACP and the ICO which means I work within their ethical guidelines.
I aim to offer a safe and welcoming space for you to reflect on the experiences that have bought you to counselling and the individual way in which these experiences may be affecting your life. Being able to reflect on these can be empowering and free you to move to a place of emotional and psychological fitness.

How I work

Sometimes life can feel heavy or as though you are stuck, but counselling can help you to make sense of what’s going on and empower you to move forward.

Counselling places expertise on the client. As your counsellor, I’m there to offer an empathic environment while you are on your journey towards well-being. Counselling is flexible, and client led. You decide how to use the space and what is most important for you to talk about in each session.

I offer:

Face to Face Counselling Sessions
Online Counselling
CBT
Creative Therapy
EAP Sessions

Our First Session

For many people especially children and young people, starting counselling can be very daunting. Finding a counsellor that you feel safe and comfortable with is important. Once trust is built and confidentiality is agreed, we can look at and work on what stands in the way of your well-being.

I’m a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work within the bounds of their ethical framework.

Seeking therapy is a sign of strength. It shows that you have decided you are ready for change. Change can be difficult and can bring up a whole range of emotions. I will be there to support you and walk with you on your journey.

The counselling relationship is one like no other. It is a relationship of equal power, a relationship that places the client as the expert and offers them a safe and non-judgemental space where they can explore whatever they need. Sessions are client led. For some people, this may take some getting used to as they may come to counselling with some expectations. I am not here to fix you; you are perfect as you are. I am here to support your journey to well-being.

Counselling can help to cope with a range of issues from everyday stresses to the heavier things that we carry. I have worked both privately and within the voluntary sector, where I have supported many children and young people with a variety of issues. Including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, self-injury, body image issues, body dysmorphia, survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, eating disorders, school and exam pressure, bullying, sexual orientation or gender questioning, suicidal ideations, bereavement, autism, ADHD, substance abuse, relationship problems and anger management.

"A person is a fluid process, not a fixed and static entity; a flowing river of change, not a block of solid material; a continually changing constellation of potentialities, not a fixed quantity of traits"
